Eleuthera boasts over 130 named beaches, each with its unique secluded charm. With its picture perfect ocean, and pink soft sand, it is the pure beach goers dream of what a ideal beach day is! Determining the "best" really depen

ds on your personal preferences and what you're looking for in a beach experience. However, here are some of the most frequently praised and popular beaches in Eleuthera, encompassing a variety of features:

For Pink Sand Lovers:

  • French Leave Beach (Club Med Beach): Located near Governor's Harbour, this expansive beach on the Atlantic side is known for its beautiful, soft pink sand. It's ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and long walks.

  • Lighthouse Beach: Situated at the southern tip of Eleuthera, near Cape Eleuthera, this beach offers miles of unspoiled pink sand. Reaching it involves a scenic two-mile walk, but the breathtaking views and secluded atmosphere are well worth the effort. The snorkeling here is also reportedly excellent.

  • While not directly on Eleuthera, the famous Pink Sands Beach is on nearby Harbour Island, easily accessible by a short ferry ride from North Eleuthera.

For Calm, Shallow Waters (Great for Families):

  • Gaulding Cay Beach: Located in North Eleuthera on the Caribbean side, this beach is renowned for its incredibly calm, shallow, and clear turquoise waters, often described as being "as flat as an ice rink." It's perfect for swimming, kayaking, and relaxing. There's also good snorkeling around the cay.

  • Rainbow Bay Beach: Situated in North Central Eleuthera, this beach is also known for its shallow waters, making it very family-friendly. It offers public picnic tables with umbrellas for added convenience.

  • Ten Bay Beach: Found south of Governor's Harbour on the Caribbean side, this long, curved beach features very calm, shallow waters, almost like a natural swimming pool. It's shaded by large casuarina trees in the morning.

For Surfing:

  • Surfer's Beach: Located on the Atlantic side, about 2 miles from Gregory Town, this beach attracts surfers with its consistent swells. Even if you're not a surfer, it's a lively spot to watch the action.

For Seclusion and Natural Beauty:

  • Twin Coves Beach: Just north of French Leave Beach, this unique spot features two coves separated by a narrow strip of sand. The waters are slightly calmer than at French Leave, and there's a rocky promontory offering great views of the waves.

  • Preacher's Beach: Located in North Eleuthera, a short walk down a sandy path, this beach offers stunningly colored water and a secluded feel. It's a great spot for a picnic after exploring nearby Preacher's Cave.

  • Winding Bay Beach: Situated in South Eleuthera, this beach is often mentioned for its natural beauty and tranquility.

Beaches with Amenities or Unique Features:

  • Bird Point Beach: Located right in front of our cottages at Bird of Paradise, this beach offers spectacular views and the perfect reefs to snorkel and check out the colorful fish, right in front of our cottages (particularly to the right of the Golden Chalice and in front of our new upcoming cottages)! The pink sand is so soft, and you will always see crabs hiding in the sand, running from you!

  • Cocodimama Beach: Located right by Cocodimama resort this beach is peaceful and calm! There are hardly any waves. It is the perfect spot to grab a float and just let your dreams go while you are floating around.

  • Cape Eleuthera Resort Beaches: Located on a private preserve at the southern tip, these beaches offer seclusion and access to nature.

Important Considerations:

  • Side of the Island: Remember that the Caribbean (Exuma Sound) side generally offers calmer, shallower waters, while the Atlantic side often has more waves and pinker sand.

  • Accessibility: Some of the most secluded beaches may require a bit of an adventure to reach, sometimes involving unpaved roads or walking trails. Renting an SUV with good clearance is often recommended for exploring the island.

  • Tides and Weather: Be mindful of tides, especially when visiting spots like Queen's Bath near the Glass Window Bridge, as conditions can become dangerous during high tide or rough seas. The Atlantic side can also be breezy or windy.

To truly find your best beach in Eleuthera, consider what activities you enjoy most and the kind of atmosphere you prefer. With so many options, you're sure to discover your own slice of paradise!
